• Who is Shine?

Domestic abuse is the hidden epidemic of NZ.

Every 4 1/2 minutes the Police attend a domestic abuse callout

1 in 3 women will be physically or sexually abused by an intimate partner in her lifetime

1 child is killed by a family member every 5 weeks

1 women is killed by a family member every 3.5 weeks

At Shine, we are working to make NZ homes violence-free. We are New Zealand’s largest specialist organisation providing services to help victims of domestic abuse (adults and children) to get safe and stay safe.

We offer a range of integrated services that support adult and child victims to be safe as well as supporting men who have used abuse, to change their behaviour.

Shine was founded in 1990. We are proud to to have celebrated our 25th anniversary, and the huge amount of growth and progress that we have made in through the years.

We work in partnership with many organisations, from the NZ Police and Child Youth & Family Services to Family Works and the Auckland District Health Board.

Currently we have serious funding shortfall, where we are only able to help a fraction of the victims who need our help. With your help on Orange Friday, we can raise the funds we so desperately need to ensure that all victims of domestic abuse are able to have the help that they need to get safe and stay safe.
